When Waters Fresh Fish Deep, Shell And Shorelines

Fishing Report 5/05/2008

Great Fishing with Capt. David Harris....! Galveston Texas fishing, Galveston fishing, Galveston offshore, Freeport Texas saltwater fishing Texas, Offshore fishing Galveston, Galveston fishing ChartersWell if you like to fish in the wind, this last week was made for you. This time of year a south or southeast wind really isn’t that bad as long as the tide is in your favor. We ground it out all week along the south shoreline of East Bay and yes with the tides we did have a couple trips that was a grind and it was still slim boxes but only a couple. Marsh drains or shell was what we worked. There was slicks along most the shorelines and with the higher tides the Trout where right on the shoreline by weeks end. Like I said it was a grind but by the end of the trips you could put together a nice box as long as the tide was moving, once again tide movement is the key. As the weekend arrived we could get out Saturday to the open bay reefs to find a lot of fresh water so we headed back to the shorelines for trout, flounder and reds. The boats that stayed out in the deeper water got some trout but the key was fish the slicks and fish deep. The Trout where right on the bottom under the fresh water. I look for the fresh water to stay around for a while with all coming down thru Trinity but we can work around it the way it’s coming in. Like the title says fish deep and slow work an area with slicks hard and wait it out, if need be let the trout come to you or you could pass over them drifting.

Ok the Causeway Bridge produced some nice Trout this last week when the wind was from the south. I also got a report from the Campbell’s area one day. East Bay was a hunt game. Working the shorelines for slicks and bait was the key. I worked shell on the shorelines and marsh drains when the tide was running out. I saw a lot of slicks over shell on the shorelines so make notes when running the shorelines.

As for the coming week it all depends on the winds. Low winds and I’ll be out on the open bay shell most likely. If the winds come up I’ll be working the south shorelines on shell and guts. I did get some great reports from the surf last Monday when the wind was out of the north. Some nice 4 pounders where caught or a day or two till the wind went back to the south and southeast.

Of we can get the wind to lie we are in some prime fishing for Trout. East Bay is in great shape along with parts of Galveston Bay we just need the wind to lay a little.

I also want to let everyone know that Crystal Canal Bait Camp is open and holding bait. As of this writing they have Live and Fresh Dead shrimp and the live looks great they also now have table shrimp while it lasts. They also have 25lbs of ice for $3.00 now that’s a deal. They also are holding a few croaker in tanks as of now. They open at 6:00am now and will open earlier as the year passes. Stingaree Bait Camp is holding Live Shrimp and bulk ice, they also have 2 boat ramps to launch from and are open daily.

As for the classes I’ve been doing I’m still doing them mornings and afternoons, weekdays and weekends. The classes cover all of East Bay from the Point of Bolivar to Smith Point and back to Rollover Pass and everything in between and parts of Galveston Bay. This will cover a whole years fishing area fishing areas. These are private classes done by appointment, one on one or with a fishing buddy. I will be covering it all from fishing locations with g.p.s. crod. to bait riggings. This is a no holds bar class all questions are answered. I won’t be mixing people unless you put a group together and then it needs to be only up to 3 persons. I’m doing this for a one-on-one so each person will get the most out of it. Give me a call to set up a date for your class or if you have any questions.

I want to thank Chris’s Marine, Haynie Boats, Coastline Trailers in Seadrift Tx, and Mercury Motors for the nice 12’X12’ Billboard they have put up in both directions between the Light house and the Ferry Landing on Bolivar advertising their products and GalvestonBayFishing.Com. It looks great from the road in both directions.

Crystal Canal Bait is closed for the winter, depending on the oyster season results they may open back up early but I will let you know if they do and their hours.
