Capt. David Harris' Galveston Bay Fishing Report *********************************
Winter Fishing Galveston Fishing Report 1/8/2012 Well its January 2012 with that comes the end of deer season for myself and many others, the Houston Boat Show is going on and will be for the next week. With that said nows the time to put up the camo and guns for boats and Rods and Reels. If its all been sitting since October you may want to grease the bearings and oil the reels. With the warmer weather fishing has been good if you can pick your days. As for me like I said above deer season is over which was a good one for me so Im back and ready to get out and fish. I plan on spending the next couple weeks going over the boat, trailer and rods and reels and then hitting the water. I know well have some cold days before spring hits but like everyone you gotta get it when you can. Ok as for the fishing, if I hit east bay Ill be working the marsh drains for reds and a few trout on an outgoing tide. If we have water in the bay Ill head to the back of the bay and work the shoreline from the north shoreline down to frozen point. Dont forget about Yates and Big Pasture many of the deeper guts back in the marsh hold some nice numbers this time of year and into the spring. For those of you on the north end of the bay Ive been getting some good reports from Burnett, Scotts and Taubs Bay. Also West Bay this time of year produce some nice stringers. Plastics are the bait of choice for many and if youre not into plastics work a Gulp inder a pop-n-cork, the key is to keep it moving with motion but dont over work it the scent will to the work for ya. As for bait camps the ones on Bolivar are closed for most till March 1st. Many are open in Galveston Like Galveston Yacht Basin or Galveston Bait and Tackle at the base of the causeway bridge. Ill be starting the fishing reports on a weekly basis coming out on Sunday night and as the season progresses Ill also be doing some midweek reports coming out on Wed or Thurs. for the weekend fisherman. I did a few vedios last year and plan on doing it more often this year (last year was a test). Good luck to all this comming year and if you have any question feel free to call me or e-mail me any question. Until Next Week Be Safe and Watch The Weather Capt. David Harris
Fishing Report 12/7/11 I wanted to get one more fishing report in before the end of the year to say thank you to all the trips I had this year and e-mails. As you can see I havent been on the water since deer season opened on Nov. 5th and its paid off for my freezer. I needed a break from the water and hit the east Texas pines for a while. Im about done with deer season and looking forward to Christmas Vacation with my wife, daughter, mom, sister, brother inlaw and nephews in Cedar Park Texas for a week. I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I will start back with weekly reports again the middle of Jan. 2012. We have some great plans for 2012 in the reports and changes to the website as the year goes on. We started videos a little bit last year and will be taking those to the next step. Reports will be done on a weekly basis and during the main part of the year well have midweek updates to changes on the water and fish movements. I am really looking forward to 2012 and getting things back to normal like Pre-IKE. As for the fishing I have been getting some great reports from other guides from the upper part of the bay system in Scotts and Tabs Bay and then around the back of East Bay in the Frozen Point and Refuge area. Many are just wading in from the Refuge. This and into the early spring can be a good time to to wade that area. Im still getting some good reports on the flounder for Dec. I wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season and New Year. Capt. David Harris Until Jan 2012 when I start reports again Be Safe and Watch The Weather ****************************************
Fishing Report 10/24/11 Ive come to love fall fishing on the Galveston Bay Complex, despite dodging a front once a week or every two weeks its the 3 or 4 days after a front passes thats what I love. Cooler mornings, Bay waters clear up faster and boat traffic is a lot less, but what I think is the best of all is, the selection of fish that hit the box. Its not uncommon to come in with trout, redfish and flounder which makes a great smorgasbord on the dinner table. This year has been a great start to fall fishing, Trout are working under the birds and along some of the shorelines and even back in the mash canals, redfish have been boiling out in the bays and working a few shorelines and best of all weve been bringing in some nice numbers of flounder for the start of the fall flounder run. Remember starting at 12am on November 1st the limit goes down to 2 per person and runs till November 30th at midnight so keep count for November and keep only 2 per person. Ok was for thats been working, Weve been picking up flounder along many of the marsh drains and shorelines in East Bay working a Gulp 3 white shrimp or Mullet curley tail on a 1/8th oz jig head just giving it a little bounce here and there, weve also used some finger mullet this last week for some of our parties with same results. As for trout its been birds and shorelines and yes weve still been using the same bait for them also with good results. If Im on birds I use a Norton mullet most the time still on a 1/8th oz jig head. Reds have been mixed in with the flounder and trout. Birds have been all over the bay from marsh canals to open water and Ive been surprised about the shallow waters the birds have been working and the trout produced under them. As always under the birds you gotta weed thru the under sized specs and sand trout. I look for this action to stay around for another 30 days I hope. With the summer coming to an end call around for bait if you need it. Blue Water has had a steady supply for the most part day in and day out theyve been opening at 5:30am for now Im sure it will get a little later as the fall hits. Stingaree and Bolivar Yatch Basin has been hit or miss for the most part so like I said give them a call if youre heading their way. Im still doing the classes which focus on East Bay but also cover from the Causeway to Smith Point and back to Rollover Pass. We also talk about parts of West Bay and Trinity Bay also. Its a no holds bar class with gps cord and its broke down into locations gps cord and time of year. I cover baits and when I like to use them and how I use them. I do these just like trips by booking a date and time. They are done at my location on Bolivar but I am on the water if you want to come by boat and fish your way back to the other side of the bay. Give me a call and I can go over what it covers a little more. Until next Week Be safe and watch the weather Capt. Dodging Fronts Fishing Report 10/17/2011 Well its a full swing fall pattern for the Galveston Bay system and were loving it. Working around the fronts is another thing for this time of year but it can be done and it pays off. For the coming week it looks like were getting blessed with a strong front thats going to bless us with cooler temperatures and some near gail force winds from the predictions on the weather reports, only time will tell. One things for sure we may be able to run Tuesday if we get lucky but Wednesdays out for sure and Thursdays up in the air, by Friday we should be able to get back on the water as long as its back in the bay. Ok as for what is going on, East bay is in a fall pattern from what Im seeing, birds working and of course you got to weed thru the sand trout to get to the specs. Flounder are on the move and after this front rolls thru Im sure theyll pick up for the coming weeks once we get past the front. Its just a great time to fish the Galveston Bay Complex. I did get some great reports from the upper part of the bay system also. For me Ive been chasing flounder on some trips along the south shoreline at cuts and guts throwing mainly Gulp 3 white shrimp and Gulp Mullet with the curly tail. When were chasing birds or drifting reefs I been throwing Norton Bull Minnows, Limetreuse or once again the Gulp 3 white shrimp on a 1/8 oz. screw lock they both will last all morning With the summer coming to an end call around for bait if you need it. Blue Water has had a steady supply for the most part day in and day out theyve been opening at 5:30am for now Im sure it will get a little later as the fall hits. Stingaree and Bolivar Yatch Basin has been hit or miss for the most part so like I said give them a call if youre heading their way. David Harris Sponsored By: Haynie Boats, Mercury Motors, Power-pole, Coastline Trailers, Powerpro ********************************************* Fall Bite In Full Swing For Galveston Bay Fishing Report 10/10/11 I would have to say from what Im seeing we are in full swing of a fall pattern, birds working, flounder on the move, trout and reds showing back up on shorelines and even despite the heat, morning seem to have that hint of a cool bite before the sun gets up. I love this time of year. The best part of fall is fishing a full day if you want to and you arent drained by 2 pm after a full day on the water. Also depending on the tides afternoon fishing can be very productive this time of year also. Ok the winds did play havoc on us over the weekend and we had to cancel sat. and sun. trips and it seems to always do this in the spring and fall, weekends always knocked out do to a front but all we can do is wait to see whats in store its not always like that. I fished all week with good results till the winds picked up Thursday afternoon and then it seemed to slow in East Bay. Before the winds picked up, I was getting flounder along the south shoreline marsh drains and on the north shoreline guts and drains, reds and some smaller trout some keepers along with the flounder. Birds have been working along the north shoreline back to rollover pass and thru the middle of East Bay as in years past. I am seeing a lot of mullet in the bay. As for other parts of the bay I got reports of trout showing up in the upper part of the bay system in Scotts and Taubs from one of the other guides. I would think around the mouth of the trinity river would be good also with the little bit of fresh water coming down the river. Remember if youre a flounder lover now,s the time to hit it as in Nov 1-30 the limit drops down to two, on Dec 1st the limit goes back to 5 and as always with a 14 min. For those after the saddle blanket Ive been using gulp bait a plastic in a 3 white shrimp or a white mullet with a curly tail on a 1/8th oz head just bumping it along the bottom and they lovem. If youre not good with plastics use the same setup but with a cork just letting it drift across the bottom and the flounder will pounce on it. I look for all the above to work over the next 30 days as we head towards thanksgiving. Boat traffic is lighter on the bay both weekdays and weekends from what Ive seen and its nice. I will also say dont forget about the open bay shell reefs in the bay system they also have a fall and winter bite and with the warmer weather were having I look for a good bite to last well into Nov and Dec unless we get a artic front which I dont see in the future. I do have a couple days open this coming week Thursday the 13th and Friday the 14th due to a 2 day party having to move a trip. And the next week I only have Thursday the 20th open. After the 25th I have more days open but nows the time to book for Nov Trout, Reds and Flounder. With the summer coming to an end Call around for bait if you need it. Blue Water has had a steady supply for the most part day in and day out theyve been opening at 5:30am for now Im sure it will get a little later as the fall hits. Ok as for the fishing we saw Trout, Reds and Flounder all over before the front hit, Reds back in the Hog Pens, the south shoreline was producing Reds and Flounder around most the marsh drains with a few trout mixed in. Most the reefs that held bait produced some specs and of course the sand trout are thick. Birds have been working with tide movement thru the middle of the bay and along the north shoreline back to Rollover Pass. For you Flounder lovers they are on the move, I am running flounder trips as of now, if were after flounder most likely well also end up with a some Reds also as Ive been getting them in the same places as the flounder for the most part and even some Specs. As for baits Ive been using mainly plastics and Gulp for most trips and doing fine, White 3 shrimp Gulp or White Mullet with a curly Tail Gulp. If you use gulp make sure you put them back in the package when youre done and they will last and can be used over again if they dont get torn up. Under the birds or setting birds you can throw just about anything and theyll hit it, as always theyre feeding and as long as it shows signs of life theyll hit it. Try working the out side area of bird action and lots of times youll find larger trout sitting back waiting for the easy feed. As for the coming month you cant go wrong if you as me, yes well have some days when a front hits but you just gotta work around them. Like I said above it always seems that if a fronts going to hit it wil from Friday morning to Saturday morning which knocks out weekends sometimes. All we can do is book the trip and wait and see if were gonna be able to run. Sept seems to be a bad month for fronts in the last couple years weve been able to run most our trips in Oct and Nov so well just have to hope it carrys on this year. If youre looking for a Flounder trip nows the time to book it for Oct, in Nov the limit drops to 2 per person. We dont limit it to Flounder on those trips but thats what we target until we hit the magic number then well chase specs and Reds. With the summer coming to an end Call around for bait if you need it. Blue Water has had a steady supply for the most part day in and day out theyve been opening at 5:30am for now Im sure it will get a little later as the fall hits. David Harris Sponsored By: Haynie Boats, Mercury Motors, Power-pole, Coastline Trailers, Powerpro *************************************** Fishing Report 9/26/11 Well Im loving the weather weve been having for the most part. It looks like we may be in for some above avg. winds till midweek and then they should settle down a little. I love Flounder and Flounder fishing so as you can see from the picture in this report their starting to move. I was out Saturday with a buddy Brad and all we hit was some of my flounder holes for a few hours and thats what we ended with, 8 Flounder and a couple Reds and a 16 trout not bad for the flounder holes. I did see several groups of birds out in the bay as I was running around a couple days also. Ok as for the coming weeks, look for a fall bite to start to show, like I said above flounder are moving and the reds are starting to show back up on the shorelines and marsh drains. I was using a Gulp 3 white shrimp for the flounder and Brad was using a Gulp Bull minnow curley tail in white or red for Flounder. I rig it on a 1/8 oz jig head and just work it on the bottom, small bumps it all it takes. As for the Trout bite, Birds are working along the north shoreline and towards the back of the bay. I look for them to be around for a while since they just are really just getting going both here and they should be starting up in Trinity bay also. Weve also been picking up trout on reefs like, Little Hannas, Big Hannas, New Reef and some of the reefs along the north shoreline and I look for them to stay strong. I love the fall bite and the mornings on the bay, this is the time of year afternoons will start improving over the next few weeks. Shrimp and plastics are coming into play strong and dont forget about Gulp I really like to use them this time of year. With the summer coming to an end Call around for bait if you need it. Blue Water has had a steady supply for the most part day in and day out theyve been opening at 5:30am for now Im sure it will get a little later as the fall hits. Fishing Report 9/19/11 Well I would say were in a fall bite but I bet its right around the corner for us. WE dont have the cooler weather yet but I am seeing a little cooler mornings for the most part, yes it heats up quick but its a start. Im seeing some changes in East Bay that tells me the time of year we are at. End of summer and the start of a fall bite is around the corner for us. For you Flounder lovers they are milling around at some of the early spots, theyve been caught from the north shoreline across the bay to the Sun Oil Cut and down the south shoreline to Sievers Cut at curtain times all this last week. Now no one had big numbers me included but a few each time we went and looked for them and they ranged 15-19 which is big enough for a nice meal. As for trout we had to work for them but we did get some nice ones by not giving up. Lots of Sand Trout and then the Specs went to 23 for my boat, just some good catching by all. Were coming off the full moon so we should see a little better tide coming the end of the week and once we get into next week we see a better morning tide movement which is what I like. I saw a bite just about all over the bay on good tide movement, Monday the best day for me and the rest of the week was steady. I stayed in the south side of the bay for the most part working Middle, The New Reef, Peppers, and Little Hannas with a few stops along the south shoreline looking for and picking up some Flounder. Just a note Flounder love small croaker drifted along a shoreline or cut, I use them as much or more than I use anything else this time of year, once the croaker cant be had I us a plastic, Gulp Curly Tail or a red/White shrimp tail by Mad Man. I look for things to pick back up midweek as tides get better and water settles we did have a drop from the front and rain but mainly the front the other week. Were on a rebound and Ill be watching it all week. Live shrimp are working for numbers but croaker is still picking up some bigger trout, plastics drifting are also stacking up some good numbers also. With the summer coming to an end Call around for bait if you need it. Blue Water has had a steady supply for the most part day in and day out theyve been opening at 5:30am for now Im sure it will get a little later as the fall hits. Fishing Report 9/12/11 Well you couldnt of ask for a better week for fishing. Once the winds laid down Wednesday it was on for both the bay and the beachfront. Even Sunday when the surf was up due to the storm going into mexico you could dodge the wave here or there and still pick-up a limit of trout by 8:30 or 9:00am and the bay was a little slower but producing some nice numbers and size in some areas. I loot for some bird action to start over the coming weeks if all goes well. Ok for the coming week the north shoreline of east bay is really starting to produce numbers, you gotta sort thru the undersized but it will keep you busy for a morning and by the end of a trip you can put together a nice box of trout. Look for active bait and slicks, if the tide is moving good we should start to see some birds working . As for the rest of East Bay, Little Hannas, Big Hannas, Deep Reef and Ladys Pass all should be checked out. Ive gotn reports from just about all of them producing some trout this week once the wind laid down. Boat traffic has been down and its been nice out on the bay, the mornings this last week were really nice and cool, I hope we can keep the mornings cool for this week but it looks like were going to be seeing a warming trend this week late mornings and in the afternoon. We should start to see a true late summer pattern with the cool down and Labor Day come and gone. Live shrimp are working for numbers but croaker is still picking up some bigger trout, plastics drifting are also stacking up some good numbers also. Ok bait camps are open and running, bait has been in great supply for all on bolivar from what Ive seen and heard of. Stingaree, Bluewater, and I think Hornbecks is open and running reg. hours on weekends And most open around 5:30am. Also for those wanting a Burger or snack while fishing try Stingarees Down Under its open Friday-Tuesday for lunch and dinner. Its a great place under the restaurant over- looking the intercoastal, cold drinks and food and they make a good Pizza. ****************************************** But It Was In The Surf For Most Fishing Report 8/22/11
OK as for the bay I did get some good reports on and off from East Bay, croaker and live shrimp along with drifting plastics all paid off for those that hit the bay but it wasnt as fast and easy. It did seem to improve as the week went on in the bays both East and Trinity. If we can keep the tide moving I look for both bays East and Trinity to produce some nice fish boxes by the end of the mornings trip. Little Hannas to New Reef to Bull Shoals produced Trout with a few Reds. I did get a good report from Reds along the North Shoreline, working some of the old pier pilings. I look for East Bay to see improve with the lighter winds we are predicted to see this week.
Ok bait campS are open and running, bait has been in great supply for all on bolivar from what Ive seen and heard of. David Harris Sponsored By: Haynie Boats, Mercury Motors, Power-pole, American Rodsmith, Coastline Trailers, Powerpro *********************************** Fishing Report 8/15/11 It was one of those weeks for the most part. West by southwest winds put a slowdown on what tide movement we had for most of the bay for us and most the guides I talked to later in the week. One good thing was the tide turned on Sunday morning and some good boxes and size hit the coolers by 9am, yes Ill be hitting it if possible this week. I threw a glow/chartreuse Brown Lure was the ticket for me and a buddy was throwing a Pink/Paddle Tail Brown Lure with the same results good numbers and some nice Trout hitting the box. Now I just started throwing the Brown Lures this year and have better results with the Devil and Paddle Tail than I have with others. Their tough and last a good while I think the biggest thing is the eyes they paint on. You can check them out www.brownlures.com or you can pick them up at most Academys. Ok for the coming week looks like a lot of south or southwest winds in the 5 to 10 knot range for the most part. Coming off a full moon we should see a sunrise bite and then a late afternoon bite till looks like next weekend. I dont mind a full moon or post full moon but I like to leave the dock before sunup and get the sunrise bite. When Im out this week Ill be keying in on slicks early and active bait later in the morning. I also want to bring up the Flounder I got some good reports of gigging in Rollover Bay and the Pocket last week and over the last couple weeks when the waters was right. As for the bay I got word of some flounder moving around Big Pasture to around to sun oil cut last week also. Drifting with plastics or live shrimp under a pop-n-cork may be the best ticket for numbers this week, cover some ground, watch the beach front just because the water isnt green doesnt mean the trout arent there in the surf. Bay shrimping opens Monday so Im sure well see more shrimp boats dragging the bay this week. Ok bait campS are open and running, bait has been in great supply for all on bolivar from what Ive seen and heard of. Fishing Report 8/8/11 Well it was a rough week for many, we just ground it out to put trout in the box. Numbers were not big but some of the larger trout made up for the lax of big numbers. We did have trout hit the box to 26 this week which is nice but like I said before the numbers were not there. West winds early and a lack of tide was the reason and thats about to change. Looking at the noaa reports for the coming week we should see more of a south wind and looking at the tide charts we will be seeing a better or should I say a stronger tide by midweek this week and thru the weekend. Like I say time and time again ya gotta have some tide movement to gettem to feed. Ok from what I saw last week and with a little better tide I look for the week to be one to look forward to. Little Hannas is still producing some trout but you got to weed thru the Sandy Trout and smaller specs to load the box. Big Hannas seemed to slow a little but Bull Shoals and Ladys Pass produced some nice sized trout and numbers have been improving over the last couple weeks. Deep Reef has slowed but if like in years past we should see it start to improve over the next 30 days. Middle and what I call New Reef have been showing more signs of life with some nice trout coming to the box. Peppers has had oyster boats on them for the last couple weeks and the bite has slowed a lot since they moved in. I look for things to be about the same as far as locations for the next couple weeks at least. Ive been keying in on slicks at all locations and next active bait. Its been mainly mullet this last week no shad that Ive seen. Paddle tail plastics have been working better for us in chartreuse, Pink or white. Croaker is still producing nice trout and should for the next month or two. Shrimp under a pop-n-cork is also producing trout but seem to be getting more trash fish and smaller trout. I gotta let everyone know I had a party out on Friday Mike his dad C.W. and a customer of thiers Rick. C.W. caught a trout that was a nice one, the only thing he did wrong was ask Rick for help getting it in. Now if youd been on the trip and listened to the badgering these guys did C.W. made a big mistake asking for help, hell never live it down or at least not until dove season opens. Good luck C.W. during dove season and if you ever need help getting a trout in give me a call and Ill send Rick over to set the hook and help you reel it in. L O L RICK Ok all bait camps are open and running on summer hours, bait has been in great supply for all on bolivar from what Ive seen and heard of. Stingaree, Bluewater, Bolivar Yacht Basin and I think Hornbecks is open and running reg. hours on weekends and during the week. Also for those wanting a Burger or snack while fishing try Stingarees Down Under its open Friday-Tuesday for lunch and dinner. Its a great place under the restaurant over- looking the intercoastal, cold drinks and food and they make a good Pizza and burgers. Bolivar Yacht Basin now has a burger stand and it opens with the bait camp, they have home made to order breakfast tacos and some great burgers they also have lunches to take with you on the boat with chips and everything else you need.

We Dodged A Storm....Bigger Trout Move In Fishing Report 8/1/11 Well we dodged a storm but we did get a little rain out of it which we all need both for the bay and our lawns. Looking ahead we could have a good week coming for fishing, so far the noaa report shows mild winds but a mix of them from all directions by the end of this week. As long as they stay down we should be able to run and catch. Ill be keying in on slick early and once the tide dies active bait. Most of this last week was smaller trout for us in the 16-18 inch range and I believe that was due to us having to work some of the protected shorelines more than the open bay reefs. Saturday was a little slower but by Sunday showed an increase in size to 27 and numbers. Ok for the coming week, like I said above Ill look for slicks early and them active bait. Slicks have been the ticket when they disappear the bite really drops off and you have to cover some ground. Plastics have really paid off late in the morning for us drifting but before that its been croaker as bait. We see size more with the live bait than the plastics but plastics are catching some nice trout just not the numbers of them. Ok as for locations, Peppers has been a go to for us mainly the sticks to the east (Little Peppers) many call it. Little Hannas has also been a go to for me later in the morning throwing plastics. Drifting on little Hannas has been better. Big Hannas and Bull Shoals has produced some nice trout for us over the last week just no numbers but I got word some numbers did hit the box over the weekend Saturday and Sunday. It looks like were seeing more of the typical summer bite in the last week and over the weekend with some schooling going on. Maybe the little bit of the a thought of a storm got everything in sync cause its been a weird year on the bay but a good one. I got a full week ahead I hope to have some time to do more video of more trout being caught and also a rigging video since many have ask how I rig for coaker which youll be surprised so check back to see if a new video is up around wed. or thur. Ok all bait camps are open and running on summer hours, bait has been in great supply for all on bolivar from what Ive seen and heard of. Fishing Report 7/24/11
Ok as for the fishing this last week with winds building overnight and dropping as the sun came up you had to pick your spots early and then you could get out on the open water later in the mornings. We had a little more west in the winds on Saturday which slowed it for us but we still took some nice trout in. We fished a little bite of everywhere most of the week. Working some of the shell along the south shoreline of east bay was early for us and once the winds died we hit the open bay reefs and picked up some more Specs. Little Hannas, Peppers all had trout but you had to weed thru the sand trout to back the box, Big Hannas, Ladys Pass, Bull Shoals all were fishable later in the mornings and produced some nice trout. I did get some good reports coming from Dollar Reef this last week so it looks like the channel is turning on, we all now how ggod it can be around and on Dollar Reef. Once again the baits havent changed much, croaker was catching some of the bigger trout for us, shrimp on a pop-n-cork had the numbers but smaller and more trash hit them, plastics did well for us later in the morning drifting reefs covering more ground. I did start using some of the Brown Lures this week and had some good luck with both the paddle tail and regular tail. We thru the pink with glitter and had some good trout hit the box. The thing I like about the bait was the firmness of the bait it didnt get tore up after a couple hits like some of the baits do they held together great. As you can see Ive posted another video from Wednesdays trip Pat Downing was back with his grandson and they had a great trip. They fished Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. All 3 days they took home some nice trout to 25 but Wednesday was the best they had a limit by 9:30 as you can see they had several in the 22-24 ½ inch range. Check out Keatons trout we got on video and Pats nice 24. I look for this coming week to hold about the same. We do have some good tide movement coming towards the middle thru the end of the week, I hope the winds stay down to a fishable level for the coming week and next weekend. Ok all bait camps are open and running on summer hours, bait has been in great supply for all on bolivar from what Ive seen and heard of. Fishing Report 7/17/11 Well we had some breaks in the wind and it seems like the end of last week went to the dogs for most of East Bay when we got greeted with a S/W or West wind at 12 to 15 knots early in the morning. Its calmed down since the rain has passed and this morning was nice on the water again. I look for a good upcoming week from the NOAA Marine report I was looking at, if so we should be back on a good and steady bite. OK before the wind shut us down, Bird Island was holding some smaller trout around it, Ladys Pass was holding some nice trout along with Big Hannas, Whitehead was holding a few but not a starting place, Deep has been hit and miss this year Frenchys has really produced some good numbers but you have to weed thru the smaller trout and Sand Trout to make a box. Mullet on the shell reefs is what Ive been looking for mainly but once you get more towards the back of the bay a few mullet but shad has been busting which a tale tale sign of trout in the area feeding. Ive also got a few reports from Campbells, the Causeway Bridge, Pelican Island Reef and Sand Island. If youre on the North end of the bay system Trinity and the wells have been holding some good trout and a few Reds. As for baits.... its your choice. As always this time of year croaker have been the ticket for bigger trout, seems like shrimp and a pop-n-cork have been good for numbers but smaller in size, plastics have been picking up and little of both depending on location. Anchoring is good if you on a school but drifting can find the school or pick up the numbers if thier scattered around or chasing schools of shad. Ok all bait camps are open and running on summer hours, bait has been in great supply for all on bolivar from what Ive seen and heard of. Stingaree, Bluewater, Bolivar Yacht Basin and I think Hornbecks is open and running reg. hours on weekends and during the week. Be safe and watch the weather Capt. David Harris Sponsored By: Haynie Boats, Mercury Motors, Power-pole, American Rodsmith, Coastline Trailers, Power-pro Wind Direction And Lack Of Morning Tide Slows Bite Over Weekend Fishing Report 7/10/11
I want to start off this report with some new info. I am getting a page up over the next 2 two weeks with t-shirts, koozies and boat bags all branded with the GalvestonBayFishing.com logo on them, yes fishing shirts, bags and koozies to start Im also working on a several different shirts, rods, hats etc. I will let everyone know on the reports page when its up and running. Im doing this to help raise funds to cover some of the cost to revamp this website and bring more info on tips and technics by video also. Its time to update GalvestonBayFishing.com to handle the new info by video on several pages which will include video fishing reports some weeks on the reports page and a tips and technics page along with a new front page to hold more info. Ok as for the fishing last week and the week to come. Fishing was good rebounding from a holiday weekend for the most part but towards the end of the week we lost our morning tide and the bite slowed for many. West winds greeted us also at the end of the week in the mornings make much of the bay turn to a mud color and slowing the bite for most. We have a good running tide starting this week by midweek and we should see a bite pickup for the mornings as the tide runs longer. We should also see a change in the winds still staying low and making the bay fishable and cleaner waters. Im looking for this week to bring back the bite and turn things around from the weekend from the tide charts and wind predictions. Ok as for the bite locations, Little Hannas has been showing some good signs of trout with the little tide weve had along with some 4 sharks. Big Hannas produced early in the week but the west winds and muddy water slowed it late in the week. Middle Reef and New Reef is still holding some nice trout but the bites slowed early. Good reports along the north shoreline from Moody Old Pier towards the Refuge Shoreline. Peppers has been run over by boat traffic and has slowed to almost nothing this last weekend.I also got some reports of of Rollover bay and the Islands producing a few trout. I am looking forward to the coming week with the better tides once we get going into the week and thru next weekend. Ok all bait camps are open and running on summer hours, bait has been in great supply for all on bolivar from what Ive seen and heard of.
